WHY we believe in CBT

We practice evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - exploring everyday challenges together and building meaningful change in how children and teenagers think, feel and act.

Every child is different. With younger children, we us therapeutic play to help express emotions and try out new behaviors in a safe space. With older children and teenagers, we draw on proven techniques such as exposure, cognitive restructuring, emotion regulation skills, relaxation excercises, and conflict or problem solving.

Our goal is to discover each young person's strengths - and find solutions that last.

MODALITIES AND PROCEDURE

WIE

WHAT we are specialized in

ANXIETY

Anxiety is a natural response to perceived threats and can range from mild uneasiness to intense fear or panic. It is often accompanied by physical symptoms such as a racing heartbeat, dizziness, or sweating. Over time, children and adolescents may begin to avoid situations that trigger anxiety, which can further affect their everyday life.

Common anxiety disorders in childhood and adolescence include separation anxiety, performance and school-related anxiety, social anxiety, and panic attacks.

Child and adolescent-specific anxiety disorders include separation anxiety, (school) performance anxiety, social anxiety, and panic attacks.

OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDER (OCD)

Obsessive-compulsive symptoms can present as intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviours (compulsions), most commonly involving excessive washing, checking, ordering, or counting rituals.

Children and adolescents affected by obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) often experience significant distress. Although they usually recognise that their thoughts or behaviours are unreasonable, they may feel unable to control or stop them.

DEPRESSION

Depression in children and adolescents can present through persistent low mood, loss of interest or enjoyment, reduced self-confidence, lack of motivation, and increased fatigue.

Physical symptoms may also occur, including changes in appetite, sleep difficulties, and problems with concentration. In more severe cases, young people may experience recurring thoughts of self-harm or suicide.

TIC DISORDERS

Tic disorders are neurological conditions that may be temporary or persist over a longer period of time. They involve involuntary movements or sounds. Vocal tics may include throat clearing or coughing, while motor tics can involve movements such as repeated blinking or nose wrinkling.

TRAUMA

AND

STRESS-RELATED

DISORDERS

Difficult or traumatic life experiences, such as the loss of a loved one, accidents, or experiences of physical or sexual violence, can lead to trauma-related emotional difficulties.

Children and adolescents may respond with increased anxiety, avoidance of situations that remind them of the experience, and difficulties regulating their emotions. In children, trauma-related symptoms may also include nightmares or distressing memories.

SOMATIC

SYMPTOM

DISORDERS

Somatic symptom disorders, sometimes referred to as psychosomatic complaints, involve physical symptoms that cannot be fully explained by a medical cause. These may include functional headaches or abdominal pain, chest pain, or dizziness.

Although the symptoms are physical and real, psychological factors such as stress or emotional strain can play an important role in their development and persistence.

AD(H)D

Children and adolescents with ADHD may experience difficulties sustaining attention, regulating impulses, and maintaining physical calm over longer periods of time. While some children appear particularly restless and active, others may seem more quiet and easily distracted.

The school environment, with its many demands and sources of stimulation, can be especially challenging. As a result, children and adolescents with ADHD may also experience difficulties with learning, organisation, and academic performance.

EATING

DISORDERS

Eating disorders involve persistent difficulties with eating behaviour, food, and body image. They include conditions such as Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge Eating Disorder.

Symptoms may include restrictive eating, episodes of binge eating, compensatory behaviours such as vomiting, or a feeling of losing control over eating. Eating disorders can significantly affect physical health, emotional wellbeing, and everyday life.
